58. . Defensive Back. Washington Commanders. Jalen Pitre. 47. player

Washington’s slot defenders performed at a replacement-level at best last season. From Kendall Fuller’s transition back into the slot that backfired, to guys like Landon Collins and Bobby McCain unable to provide any juice at the position, Washington is in desperate need of a nickel/slot defender that can do it all outside of deep-middle coverage responsibilities.

Shockingly enough, Jalen Pitre is everything Washington needs in a slot defender both in coverage and against the run, with tape and numbers that scream “cornerstone” defensive back.

With 16 coverage stops in 2021 which placed him 9th among all cornerbacks, a run defense grade that placed him in the 99th percentile, according to PFF,  and a passer rating of 51.0 when targeted in coverage over the last two seasons, Pitre is the way to go at pick No. 47 overall.

Pitre’s played across the defense throughout his time at Baylor, from playing significant snaps in the slot, to a steady dose of snaps in the box and along the defensive line, Pitre’s position-flex (*wink-wink*) on top of his polished skillset makes this selection at No. 47 an absolute home-run for Washington.
