3 biggest takeaways from Carson Wentz’s introductory press conference

2. Wentz took ownership of Colts’ late-season collapse
Reports indicate there was more baked into Indianapolis’ decision to move on from Carson Wentz than the team’s historic late-season collapse. With a 96% chance of making the playoffs entering a Week 17, all the Colts need was one win over their final two games (home vs Las Vegas and away at Jacksonville) to get in.
As we know, Indy came up short in both contests. While the offensive line and defensive were nothing to write home about, Wentz’s performance was nowhere near up to snuff. In Week 17, Wentz finished 16-of-27 for 148 yards (his third fewest of the season) and one touchdown.
In Week 18, Wentz capitulated to the tune of a 58.6% completion percentage, 185 passing yards, one TD and an interception and fumble you have to see to believe. In those games, he finished with a lowly 5.93 yards per pass attempt.
During his introductory press conference for the Commanders, Wentz was asked what went wrong in Indianapolis.
"Sometimes I wonder the same, to be honest. I think it was a year that had highs and lows, ups and downs. I think it was a year that had highs and lows, ups and downs. But the way we finished, the way I finished, was horrible. It was horrible. It was tough to swallow."
That doesn’t exactly sound like a quarterback who’s resistant to coaching, like reports suggest. Either way, it was assuring to see Wentz shoulder the blame for Indy’s collapse, even though the team as a whole fumbled the bag.
