Free agency is in full-swing, but the Washington Commanders had a personal business matter to prioritize on Day 3 of the frenzy, as newly-minted quarterback Carson Wentz was introduced to the Washington media.

In a vacuum, Wentz knocked the presser out of the ballpark. He answered every question with honesty and conviction, which is pretty much all you can ask for from a QB who’s joining his third team in as many seasons.

Before Wentz fielded any questions, he already found himself trending on social media. While some introductory pressers are remembered for players/coaches stumbling over their words or making absurd analogies, it was Wentz’s Burgundy and Gold suit saw him ruthlessly trolled by NFL Twitter.

Let social media have their laughs. We’re not going to fault a guy for repping his team’s colors at his introductory press conference. There are more important things to worry about, like these three topics Wentz discussed.

Here are the 3 biggest takeaways Commanders QB Carson Wentz’s introductory press conference.

3. Being back in the NFC East

After a one-year hiatus, Wentz is back in the NFC East. Like Wentz, we ever imagined this day would come again –certainly not this soon — but the NFL is impossible to predict and the Commanders needed to upgrade at quarterback.

The good news is Wentz isn’t overwhelmed by returning to his former stomping grounds. But what about returning to Philadelphia for the first time? How is the North Dakota State product processing that daunting scenario? He’s taking it all in stride, though he fully expects to be jeered in his first game back.

“I admit it will be weird the first time going to The Linc (Lincoln Financial Field), I’m sure I’ll hear a little bit of everything. I embrace that.”

As a quarterback who hasn’t always exceeded when faced with adversity, we’re admittedly a little skeptical about Wentz’s first game back in Philly. It’s one thing to say you embrace those moments, but he’s human.

There’s obviously going to be a whirlwind of emotions. We just hope Wentz is able to keep them in check and play sound football. To the QB’s credit, we love the fact he didn’t brush it off like it isn’t a big deal.

It is, and there’s nothing wrong with admitting it.
