3 insane stats that show how much Commanders will miss Brandon Scherff
By Jerry Trotta
2. Just 8 Sacks Allowed Since 2017
That’s right, folks. Scherff has allowed just eight sacks since the 2017, per Pro Football Focus. To put that insane statistic into perspective, the former No. 5 overall pick has played a whopping 3,610 snaps over those five seasons.
We know guards aren’t assigned with blocking edge rushers on every snap, but between navigating stunts and having to keep defensive tackles at bay, you’d still think Scherff would have allowed a minimum of 15 sacks during that span.
As an offensive lineman — not just a guard — Scherff is as good as they come at protecting the quarterback. To shed a further light on his dominance over the years, let’s take a look at his year-by-year production since 2017, shall we?
- 2017: 79.8 PFF grade, 2 penalties, 3 sacks, 4 QB hits, 22 pressures
- 2018: 72.5 PFF grade, 2 penalties, 1 sack, 1 QB hit, 9 pressures
- 2019: 75.4 PFF grade, 9 penalties, 1 sack, O QB hits, 9 pressures
- 2020: 84.0 PFF grade, 2 penalties, 3 sacks, 2 QB hits, 21 pressures
- 2021: 73.6 PFF grade, 6 penalties, 0 sacks, 1 QB hit, 19 pressures
Need we say anything else? As if eight sacks allowed over a five-year span wasn’t impressive enough, Scherff’s conceded just SEVEN quarterback hits, 79 pressures (or an absurd 15.8 per season) and just 21 penalties.
What an absolute wrecking ball of an offensive lineman.
