It’s no secret that the Washington Commanders are in dire need of an upgrade at middle linebacker going forward.

Their 2021 linebacker room was a dud for the bulk of the season just a few months ago. With Jamin Davis seemingly staying put at WILL LB (like I said he would on draft night) he would on draft night), and Landon Collins playing better since moving to the position yet still unable to mask his flaws, which no doubt contributed to his release, Washington has a mixed bag full of uncertainty at the position.

While it seemed as if Washington’s best bet to upgrade at MIKE long-term looked like drafting Wyoming’s Chad Muma or freaky-traits prospect in Montana State’s Troy Andersen, a bombshell dropped on Tuesday afternoon, as it was made known to the public that former Seahawk Bobby Wagner is hitting the open market.

Wagner is still one of the best defensive players in all of pro-football. The eight-time Pro Bowler, six-time All-Pro and a candidate to find himself in Canton once he calls it a career, this isn’t a signing that screams “he signed here off of past accomplishments,”. No, with Bobby Wagner that isn’t the case at all.

Some Washington fans may be doubtful about throwing a chunk of cash at an aging player, but Wagner, 31, would be the best linebacker on the team since the departure of London Fletcher, and if we’re being honest, Wagner *could* be the best LB to ever grace FedEx Field. Big shoes to fill, for sure, but let’s dive into why Washington should sign Wagner and what he could bring if Ron Rivera and company are looking to make a splash worth all of the money in the world.
