1. Does this confirm Commanders will draft a QB?

Given the sheer difficulty of trading for a star quarterback, we always had it in the back of our mind that Washington could end up drafting a QB. After the Rodgers news and Wilson trade, it feels more likely than ever before.

Whether they have their choice of Pickett or Malik Willis, or simply have to settle for one of the two talented prospects, it’s probably in the Commanders’ best interest to have an eye on the future. Either one would be a great pick.

It’s unclear which prospect sits atop Washington’s draft board, but Ron Rivera’s high praise for Willis at the 2022 Combine, which included likening his athleticism to Cam Newton, his former first overall pick and MVP, tells us the Liberty product has a slight edge on the Pittsburgh product.

Prior to the Wilson trade, the Commanders likely had confidence they could draft their preferred quarterback at No. 11 overall. Now, though, the Panthers AND Seahawks, both of whom will pick before Washington, are in contention to nab a QB.

Could the Commanders be pressured into trading up as a result? If they don’t trade up and Pickett and Willis are off the board, do they go best player available in Round 1 and draft Desmond Ridder or Sam Howell in Round 2?

There’s so many variables to consider. Another is Deshaun Watson. Whether or not he becomes available and ends up a Commander will determine whether Washington drafts a quarterback next month.

In the immediate aftermath of the Wilson blockbuster, though, we’d bet on the team drafting a gunslinger.
