We hope you’re enjoying the relaxing portion of the offseason (though Twitter has represented something entirely different), because the Washington Commanders‘ offseason isn’t far off from kicking into high gear.

The quarterback search is all the rage and is basically an underlying theme of the offseason given all the other needs on the offensive side of the ball.

With that said, resources will need to be invested in the defense given the glaring needs at middle linebacker and safety. You could even throw edge rusher into the mix if one of Montez Sweat or Chase Young are dealt for a star quarterback.

That might be overthinking things a bit, but doesn’t that come with the territory of working in an NFL front office? General managers and other prominent decision-makers need to map out any and all scenarios before the start of free agency.

So, while we leave all of the cutthroat decisions for Ron Rivera and Co. let’s highlight some no-brainer maneuvers (save finding a new QB and linebacker) the Commanders should make in the coming weeks and months.

4. Re-sign JD McKissic

Doesn’t get much more self explanatory than this, right?

If you need one reason for the Commanders to re-sign McKissic, look no further than how the offense performed after he got injured in Week 12. The versatile running back missed the final six games of the regular season and the unit averaged a lousy 17.6 points during that span and finished 2-4 in the process.

While Washington is expected to be in the market for an early-down back, that shouldn’t dissuade them from retaining McKissic, whose 123 catches over the last two seasons ranks third at the position behind Alvin Kamara and Austin Ekeler.

To say McKissic outperformed his two-year, $3.27 million contract with the Commanders would be an understatement. In 27 games, he compiled 557 yards rushing and three touchdowns on an impressive 4.3 YPC, along with 23 catches for 986 yards and an additional four scores as a receiver.

McKissic also picked up 45 first downs, flaunted a 75.5% catch rate and was stout in pass protection. Pro Football Focus expects him to sign a two-year, $5 million deal in free agency, including just $2.25 million guaranteed.

At that price, Washington better bring him back.
