Commanders Mock Draft: The Kenny Pickett Show 2.0
Washington needs help at the wide receiver position in 2022 and beyond. Terry McLaurin is a superstar, a player that is deserving of a $20-million per season extension if it came to that point.
With the selection of Dyami Brown hopefully paying off this season, the Commanders need a perimeter threat that can make plays happen after the catch.
Outside of McLaurin, Curtis Samuel’s shaky health and contract details means Washington may be without a threat in the open field going forward.
At pick 43, Washington needs someone that can provide some pop with the football in their hands, in addition to some size. So, with Pick 43, the Commanders take Purdue’s David Bell.
Standing 6-foot-2, David Bell would immediately be one of the tallest perimeter options on the Commanders roster, adding a viable threat in the red-zone from an archetype perspective alone.
But, that’s not the main focus here. Bell provides a spark, a big spark, with the ball in his hands that is sorely needed in DC. His play after the catch at the collegiate level is impressive, with nearly 1,100 yards of his 2,900 total receiving yards coming after the catch.
He’s one of the shiftiest wideouts in the country at 6’2, with legitimate NFL burst out in the open field. Bell isn’t a one-trick gadget player either.
The former Boilermaker can be used anywhere in your formation, with legit versatility, but his yardage share at all three levels is as balanced as can be. He had at least 300 receiving yards at each level of the passing game excluding behind-the-line-of-scrimmage, but he also provides a strong ability to complete contested catches as well.
With the selection of David Bell, you’re getting a high-level talent that is versatile, who also provides size, speed, strength at the position that is currently lacking in a big way inside Scott Turner’s offense.
