1. Austin Corbett

The Cleveland Browns drafted Corbett with the No. 33 overall pick in 2018, but he never got off the ground with the franchise. After playing 15 offensive snaps over the first 21 games of his career, he was dealt to the Rams for a fifth-round pick in 2019. Pretty notable drop given where he was drafted.

Corbett actually hit the ground running with Los Angeles. He started seven games on the bounce to close the 2019 season and notched career-highs from Pro Football Focus with a 73.4 player grade and 76.4 run-blocking grade. Pretty impressive for someone who had limited time to learn the system.

From there, Corbett has been on an upward trajectory. The 26-year-old used that breakout year as a springboard into 2020, when he started all 17 games and logged a 100% snap share, and this past campaign, when he started all 17 games and played 99% of the snaps.

As a former center, Corbett has made a seamless transition to the guard position. Speaking of which, that versatility could come in handy should Washington’s injury woes along the offensive line return. If you remember, the team was down to its fourth-string center at one point.

Corbett wouldn’t be a slam dunk replacement for Scherff, but PFF’s projected contract for him ($9.2 million annually) is the exact kind of value a team should want from the guard position.

With 32 starts over the last two seasons, the Nevada product is just entering his prime, so there’s reason to believe he continues trending up, akin to his former Browns teammate Wyatt Teller, who didn’t really blossom until his third year.

Corbett is worth a look for the Commanders.

Honorable mention: Odell Beckham Jr. We actually wouldn’t hate it if the Commanders signed Beckham. Some fans will sneer at the idea for his attitude or some other absurd reason, but he proved with the Rams he’s still an elite playmaker. With that said, he’ll be coming off a second ACL surgery on the same knee in a 16-month span and we fully expect the Rams to try and bring him back.
