The portion of the NFL offseason leading up to the start of the new league year in mid-March is typically a dead zone for content purposes. Luckily for Washington Commanders fans, the team is in the market for a quarterback, so the rumors have been plentiful since the season ended.

With that said, the buzz has quieted down significantly since Charles Leno inked a three-year extension and follow-up reports conveyed the Commanders’ interest in re-signing free agents Bobby McCain and JD McKissic.

On Wednesday, Jonathan Allen stepped up to the plate in the entertainment department by introducing an “ask me anything” segment on Twitter.

The interaction got off to less-than-ideal start after Allen listed Hitler (not kidding) as one of his dream dinner guests. The star defensive tackle has since penned an apology to his followers that was largely well received by fans.

Getting beyond that debacle, most of the conversation centered on Russell Wilson after a photo of the Seahawks quarterback and his wife Ciara and Allen and his wife Hannah at the Pro Bowl sent Commanders Twitter ablaze.

Commanders star Jonathan Allen opened up on a potential trade for Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson.

Just as we suspected. Given the way social media works, the photo was always going to get blown out of proportion. When a fan base sees their star player making nice with a potentially-available star quarterback, that’s just what happens.

However, just because Allen claims he wasn’t recruiting Wilson to Washington doesn’t mean he isn’t open to the idea of trading for him.

The next fan on Twitter went for the jugular by asking Allen directly if Wilson is coming to Washington. For the most part, the 2017 first-round pick gave fans exactly what they were looking for with his teaser reply.

That answer kind of said it all, but Allen wasn’t quite finished expressing his interest in acquiring the former Super Bowl champ. If Allen had to put a percentage on whether he’d welcome Wilson to the nation’s capital, it’d be greater — much greater, actually — than 100%.

Oh really? Only one thing left to do now, right? Make the trade!

Much like the viral Pro Bowl photo, we wouldn’t reach too much into Allen’s tweets. As much as his interests align with the fan base’s, these tweets aren’t going to convince Wilson to waive his no-trade clause for the Commanders.

At the same time, though, this story isn’t going to put the Wilson rumors to bed. For some fans, that’s just what they need to push through this next month until the Commanders are permitted to start making moves.
