2. Week 8 vs Broncos

Another winnable game in which Washington felt short.

The Week 8 contest against the Broncos came right before the bye and sent Washington spiraling in the form of a four-game losing streak. While the club responded with a four-game win streak after the bye, we can’t help but wonder how the season would’ve unfolded had they come out on top in this one.

After all, it was there for the taking.

Between Chris Blewitt missing two field goals, Taylor Heinicke throwing a pair of costly interceptions, and Washington dominating every relevant stat in the book: including time of possession, first downs and total yards, the Football Team really blew an opportunity to stop the bleeding.

What made this loss hurt a little more than the others, though, was Washington’s final offensive possession. Trailing by seven and moving the ball at will against Denver’s defense, the offense was set up with a 1st and 10 from the Broncos’ 11-yard line with 2:37 left in regulation.

After short completions to Antonio Gibson and Terry McLaurin, Washington went backwards. Heinicke was strip-sacked on 3rd and 6 that was recovered by Charles Leno all the way back at the Broncos’ 20-yard line.

On 4th and 19, Heinicke was picked off by Justin Simmons on a desperation heave to the end zone. Game over.

Washington was THAT close to pulling it off. Until they weren’t. Pain.
