The Washington Football Team continues to sink further into a season of futility and despair.  The latest defeat in Denver set another new low mark for the team and the losses are mounting.

The Washington Football Team lost their fourth straight game on Sunday and fans are calling for the firing of coaches and players.  While that sentiment is an obvious over-reaction, it is simply a realization that the season has slipped away and serious talk of any playoff appearance is now off the table.  The game on Sunday against a struggling Broncos team presented the nameless football club with a perfect opportunity to keep some faint playoff hopes alive.  Apparently, no one told the team last week about such chances.  Yes, it was that bad.

It’s the 2021 bye week or, in this case, the “bye-bye” week for the Burgundy and Gold.  The coaches, players, and fans were hoping to enter the bye week on a very high note, but the realities are far different than anyone could’ve imagined.

The first eight games of the season have brought a lot of misery to the Washington faithful, but the fans will persevere and do their best to be patient.  It’s the only alternative and while the frustrations are currently on a very high plane, fans must remain hopeful for the future.

The game itself was actually quite entertaining and it wasn’t decided until the final seconds of the fourth quarter.  However, that is not acceptable against a foe that was ready to be lassoed and tamed on Sunday.  Denver had lost four straight games entering this contest and they gave the Washington Football Team every opportunity to walk out of Mile High Stadium with a much needed victory.  The flight back to Dulles International on Sunday evening was probably a solemn and emotionless experience for the team and coaches.  They now have two weeks to deal with the latest setback and try to make improvements for the future.

Welcome to this week’s edition of negatives (this is really getting old and depressing each week) and team grades.  We’ll also give you a prediction for the home game against Tampa Bay on November 14.  The grades this week will be unfriendly to the offense and fairly benign to the defense.  Our negatives will be fair, but not on an insulting level.  Coaches and players can be their own worst critics, but we will not add fuel to the fire.  If you’re looking for a series of tirades and finger pointing, this is not the place or platform to do it.  Yours truly prefers constructive criticisms and forthright honesty.  Let’s get right to the analyses for this week and get it started with the five negatives.

1. Place kicking issues

When former Washington Football Team kicker Dustin Hopkins was released recently, some fans rejoiced and others were concerned.  The concerned crowd seems as if they were on to something from the moment Hopkins was released.  Who would replace him and could the new kicker perform the duties as expected.  After two games, it’s possible that new kicker Chris Blewitt will be released during the bye week.

It could be time for another new kicker

It has been only two games, but 60% of Blewitt’s field goal attempts have been blocked (technically).  Low kicking is to blame and the young kicker from the University of Pittsburgh could be looking for a new job soon.  Three of his five field-goal attempts are blocks that should be blamed on his low trajectories against the Packers and Broncos.

It’s hard to believe that a kicker could be the first negative in any of our weekly reviews of each game, but here we are after the eight weeks and a 2-6 record.  We’ll see if a new kicker is signed sometime soon, but Chris Blewitt is the first negative of the week.
