How will you look back at the Washington Football Team’s season?

Finishing with the same number of wins as 2020 might be viewed as a failure, but it’s important to keep in mind all the adversity this club went through.

Between losing their starting quarterback in the first half of the first game and a host of other players missing time due to injury, the cards were stacked against Washington from the very first week of the campaign.

At the end of the day, the Football Team fought hard most weeks, four of their losses were one-score games and they would’ve made a real push for the playoffs if not for a late-season COVID-19 outbreak that decimated the roster.

Just keep all that in mind when you reflect on the season. For all the negatives we witnessed, there was a Jonathan Allen or Terry McLaurin highlight that helped you remember the future in Ashburn is bright.

Speaking of Allen and McLaurin, we thought we’d put a bow on the 2021-22 regular season by running through Washington’s statistical leaders.

We’ll start with the offense then move to the defense. For added perspective, we’ll also include second- and third-place finishers in bigger categories.

That should just about do it, folks, though we’d be remiss if we didn’t acknowledge Tress Way’s typical excellence as a punter. For the season, Way’s number was called 60 times and his 48.4 average was tied for sixth among all punters.

You’ll notice familiar names throughout the article, proving yet again that Washington, though they have promising pieces to build around, needs to focus on getting more out of positions like wide receiver.

In no universe should McKissic miss the final six games due to injury and still finish second on the team in catches and receiving yards.

Let’s hope this time next year we’re not talking about McLaurin being on an island in terms of production at the WR position.
