Chase Young endorses new uniforms in first public comments since ACL injury

The Washington Football Team‘s defensive turnaround in the second half of the season was a sight to behold. Sure, there were some hiccups along the way, but what else would you expect with the group not close to full-strength?
Speaking of which, it’s remarkable to think the defense played as well as it did without tone-setter Chase Young, who missed the final eight games of the year after he suffered a torn ACL in the Week 10 win over Tampa Bay.
The fan base and reporters alike had yet to hear from Young since that chilling scene at FedEx Field, but that changed on Tuesday, as the former No. 2 overall pick made his first media appearance in nearly two months.
Fans will love knowing that Young was as plain-spoken as ever. The young edge rusher always speaks from the heart and he did just that while addressing a number of topics . . . including Washington’s new uniforms.
Washington Football Team defensive end Chase Young is a fan of the club’s new uniforms.
What a way to announce your return, right? With seemingly the entire fan base split on what the new nickname should be, there’s at least been a collective feeling that the uniforms are going to be a smashing hit. Young echoed that sentiment by giving it a four-star review and a ringing endorsement.
“I ain’t gonna play. The jersey’s hot. It’s a tough jersey. I ain’t gonna fake. I’m pretty excited about it, about the future,” Young said.
That should get fans excited, no? Jonathan Allen and Terry McLaurin joined Young in signing off on the new uniform, as all three players were chosen to represent the franchise in the upcoming rebrand on Feb. 2.
But let’s keep the conversation focused on Young. After all, we haven’t heard from the guy since the dog days of November.
It’s still pretty early in Young’s recovery process, but he’s confident he’ll meet the expected timetable in his rehab. Not only that, but he downplayed the notion that it’s been taking a toll on him mentally, which is great to hear.
"“I feel real good,” Young told reporters. “I feel like my knees are getting better every day. So, definitely making great progress. Right now I’m just going to be where my feet are at. Just take things one day at a time and just try to attack it with my best, day in and day out.”“I feel like I’ve faced bigger tests off the field,” he continued. . . “Trust me, I know that my knee can get back to 110%. As long as it can get back to 110% then that’s the only thing that I care about."
Clearly not wanting to put a hard date on when he’ll return, Young said he’s taking his recovery one day at a time. That’s pretty much the perfect attitude a player can have when he or she is making their way back from a serious injury.
Trust the process and you’ll eventually get back to 110%. Try to expedite the process, however, and you’ll increase the risk of a setback.
Assuming Young makes it through without a setback, he should be in the starting lineup rocking the “tough” new jersey come Week 1 of next season.
