The Washington Football Team was officially eliminated from playoff contention following Sunday’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

All told, this isn’t the worst-case scenario for Washington, which would’ve needed a miracle to get into the tournament. We were obviously pulling for a win, but it doesn’t hurt that the club bolstered its draft position

It was a commendable effort from Ron Rivera’s side, but the Eagles going three-of-four on fourth down proved to be the difference-maker, as two of those conversions resulted in touchdowns with Washington leading.

It didn’t help that Washington’s defense failed to pressure Jalen Hurts, who was solid despite posting some uninspiring stats. He did a nice job moving the chains and simply deferred to Boston Scott on the goal line.

Crazy what a QB can do when they have time in the pocket, right?

While Hurts wasn’t required to dodge a lot of tacklers on Sunday, he was impressively alert when a railing full of Eagles fans gave way right in front of him as he was headed towards the away locker room.

No, we’re not joking.

A railing of fans at FedEx Field collapsed right in front of Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts.

It’d be easy to point the finger at Eagles fans for overcrowding the padding leading to the locker room, but make no mistake: You can go ahead an add this to the laundry list of FedEx Field malfunctions from this season.

Sorry, but an NFL stadium in the year 2022 should be able to withstand a horde of excited fans, who, to the best of our knowledge, weren’t being reckless.

Just to recap on FedEx Field’s mishaps this year, we had a sewage pipe break in Week 1 that soiled an entire section of seats. Four weeks later, a smoke machine blunder nearly blinded players as they made their way out to the field.

We also had sprinklers go off in a stadium suite, Taylor Heinicke pick up a pair of scissors that were just chilling on the field, and finally, the tunnel railing collapsed nearly injuring the quarterback of a playoff-bound team.

Could you imagine if Hurts wasn’t on high alert and one of the free-falling fans crashed into his knee. If you thought Eagles fans were insufferable before, they’d never let Washington live this down, and rightly so.

Luckily for Hurts, the Eagles and Washington, though, the second-year QB stepped out of the way just in the nick of time.

This near-nightmare actually had a feel-good ending as Hurts helped several fans up, who immediately hugged him, because why not?

There truly is never a dull moment with this team.
