The Washington Football Team delivered in the effort department after their forgettable showing against the Dallas Cowboys last weekend.

However, moral victories were the only type of winning Washington managed Sunday vs the Philadelphia Eagles, who completed the sweep of Ron Rivera’s group in the form of a 20-16 win at FedEx Field.

With the loss, Washington was eliminated from playoff contention, marking the fifth time in six seasons the club failed to qualify.

It’s a tough spill to swallow for fans, as Washington was in the driver’s seat for the entire first half, which they finished sporting a 16-7 lead. However, the offensive line fell apart in the final 30 minutes and the Eagles rode a pair of fourth-down touchdowns to complete the come-from-behind victory.

It wasn’t all bad for Washington in this game, but these players are surely wishing they could travel back in time and have a redo, because their individual stocks took a nosedive by the time this one was said and done.

4. Cornelius Lucas

I think we learned on Sunday why Lucas has been a backup swing tackle for the majority of his career, because he was outmatched.

Filling in at right tackle for Sam Cosmi, who’s on the COVID list, Lucas was a large reason why Taylor Heinicke was rushed into so many throws.

We’ll give Lucas some benefit of the doubt, as he claimed to still be recovering from his latest bout with COVID-19. If that’s the case, he deserves some slack because players with symptoms have recalled some hellacious experiences with the virus.

At the same time, we cant just ignore what we saw and that was Lucas getting beat time and time again by Philly’s front seven.

There was even a snap where Lucas got beat for PACE by Fletcher Cox, the Eagles’ 6-foot-4, 310-pound defensive tackle.

If you want to get beat for power by Cox, that’s fine. He’s one of the best players at his position and was named to the NFL’s All-Decade Team. However, getting beat around the edge by the veteran DT is inexcusable.

Cox didn’t even reach deep into his bag of tricks. Lucas simply failed to shuffle his feat at the required speed and was out of position as the six-time Pro Bowler waltzed around him. Luckily, the instinctive Heinicke stepped up in the pocket and eluded what would’ve been a thunderous hit.
