Joey Slye adds injury to insult on blocked extra-point vs Seahawks
By Jerry Trotta
The Washington Football Team seems to have rectified its kicking woes in the form of Joey Slye, who, entering Monday Night Football against the Seattle Seahawks, was 10-for-10 on kicks in two games with his new squad.
Slye made it 6-for-6 with a 23-yard field goal to get Washington on the board in the first quarter, but his perfect streak ended shortly thereafter.
After JD McKissic found the end zone on a 10-yard pass from Taylor Heinicke, Slye’s extra-point attempt was blocked … and returned to the end zone, resulting in a de facto two point conversion for the Seahawks.
Just like that, Washington’s kicking woes have returned. Of course it had to come in primetime with the whole country watching, right?
If you think that was the last laugh folks had watching the play, you’d be wrong. While trying to chase down defensive lineman Rasheem Green, Slye appeared to injure himself. He limped off the field after the play.

Given Washington’s track record playing on Monday Night Football, we probably should’ve known a gaffe of this magnitude was coming.
Getting back to Slye, the newly-minted Washington kicker was in a dead sprint in pursuit of Green and pulled up with what looked to be a hamstring injury at first glance. That’s usually the case when players reach for the back of their legs.
That doesn’t look great!
Slye was spotted limping on the sidelines before hopping on the bike to try and stretch out the wounded tendon.
It’s unclear if Slye is going to return to this one. If he’s ruled out, you have to think longtime punter Tress Way is next in line for kicking duties.
If that’s the case, Washington fans better fasten their seatbelts, because it feels like we’re in for a rollercoaster second half.
