Closing Thoughts

With all of this being said; Washington is by no means a franchise that cannot be put in the right direction on the football field. Quite frankly all it takes is hitting on the next quarterback to change things rapidly. But that has proven to be easier stated than actually completed.

Washington still has many young, talented, exciting players. The entire front four could wreak havoc in the NFL for years to come. Jamin Davis and Cole Holcomb have the potential to be a formidable duo at linebacker.

Kendall Fuller, William Jackson III, Kam Curl, and Benjamin St-Juste are still enticing pieces the secondary’s underwhelming overall play.

Terry McLaurin is, well, Terry McLaurin. ‘Nuff said.

If Curtis Samuel ever gets healthy, he can be an exciting chess piece. The offensive line has performed admirably. Logan Thomas is a quality tight end and Ricky Seals-Jones has shown promise as well.

Antonio Gibson has an entire well of untapped potential and his backfield running mate, J.D. McKissic, seems to be in the long-term plans too according to ESPN’s John Keim.

Here is the point: for as ugly as this season looks, Washington still has a very talented roster. It just has its biggest question in the one spot you never want to have questions: quarterback.

Maybe Ron Rivera and the coaching staff are not the right guys. Maybe they are just great people that mean well but are not the right fits. Maybe the stench of Dan Snyder is far too great for anyone to be successful.

Maybe those points are true. But here is the overarching main theme with the Washington Football Team: nothing matters until the franchise quarterback is found. And no, I do not think it is on the current roster.

Find the quarterback, until then; talented surroundings can only take a team so far. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise. Maybe as Ron Rivera put it in his interview with ABC 7’s Scott Abraham, “it is always darkest before it gets brightest.”

It is possible a year of bottoming out for a top five pick is much more beneficial than floating around .500. It most likely gives Washington the best shot at cashing in on its lottery ticket.

If they don’t, there will be more failed seasons in the future. Here’s to hoping Washington hits the jackpot. It is the magic key to a newer, brighter future.
