7.      Special Teams

I’m lumping all teams into one group, which may not be fair. But I’m doing it anyway. Punting, with Tress Way, and punt returning, with Carter, should be just fine. Kicking, with some recent struggles from Dustin Hopkins and a rookie snapper, bears watching. Coverage units should be all right. They lost solid guys like Danny Johnson and Jeremy Reaves, but found a way to hold onto Deshazor Everett and Troy Apke. Darrick Forrest might have been a good addition had he not been placed on IR one day after making the roster, but Casey Toohill and Shaka Toney should be scary racing down the field.

8.      Linebackers

There were only four linebackers on the roster after the final cuts, but it seemed obvious that the Washington Football Team was not finished with that position. Sure enough, with Darrick Forrest being shifted to the IR, veteran David Mayo was re-signed. Still, the position remains thin.  Khaleke Hudson has promise but has yet to show much beyond special teams play. That puts tremendous pressure on the three starters – especially rookie middle backer Jamin Davis.

It is entirely possible that the Washington Football Team is still not finished with the position. Veteran free agent KJ Wright is still lingering out there, and several other young players became free in the latest round of cuts. Washington has already kicked the tires on a couple – like Noah Spence and Donald Payne, who both did brief stints in DC. There are other talented youngsters available – like Kamal Martin and Joe Jones – who were victims of numbers crunches on their former teams. And Washington has already been linked to the highest-profile linebacker who was just cut – Bernardrick MCKinney.
