Washington D/ST

Even if your fantasy league doesn’t include special teams in its scoring system, we’d be all over drafting Washington’s defense. And if your league does count special teams, we’d feel even stronger about.

Listen, we know the Football Team posed no semblance of a threat in the return game, but they can’t get any worse. With new faces added to the special teams unit, don’t be surprised if the group takes a couple kicks to the house.

Let’s move on to the main attraction of this pick: Washington’s defense, which finished seventh among all D/ST a season ago…despite having a secondary with holes in it. Between the addition of William Jackson and Landon Collins looking like his former All-Pro self in camp and the preseason, their ceiling has shot up.

Washington isn’t being drafted as the first defense, but consensus rankings have them in the top five (some have them in the top 3). We’d advocate pouncing on them as soon as the first two defenses come off the board.

That should wrap it up, folks. If you’re wondering why we kept Ryan Fitzpatrick off the list, he’s going undrafted in most non-two-QB leagues. However, he has the potential to be a waiver wire superstar, so keep a close eye on how he performs in Week 1 against the Chargers.

In deeper leagues, we’d take a waiver flier on Adam Humphries or Dyami Brown if something were to happen to McLaurin or Samuel, but you’d have to be extremely thin at WR to consider WFT’s third- and fourth-stringers.

OK, that should wrap it up. Best of luck to all the fantasy managers out there…and make sure to draft at least one Washington player to your squad!
