Washington Football Team: Former WFT cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie playing for AFFL Championship
By Nick Swanson
The Washington Football Team connection, albeit very very short lived in this case, runs deep through the various startup leagues around the country. The American Flag Football League, or AFFL, is one league that has consistently taken the summer by storm, year after year. The AFFL has their men’s and women’s championships on August 28 and August 29.
The American Flag Football League’s championship weekend has arrived. Former Washington Football Team cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is one of the participants in the men’s championship game.
The winner of each gender group will win $200,000, which makes it the biggest payout in the history of professional women’s football. The league has brought in a ton of former NFL talent including Michael Vick, Vince Young, Chad Ochocinco, Terrell Owens and former Football Team quarterback Danny Wuerffel. Now, former Washington Football Team cornerback, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie has made his impact on the league.
Rodgers-Cromartie had a very short-lived career with the Washington Football Team. He only played in two games for the Football Team before going on injured reserve, one of which he started. In those two games he only recorded seven total tackles, five solo and two combined in Washington.
DRC plays for the AFFL’s “Kings of Florida” team. The tournament started with 32 teams and the field has shrunk every weekend since Friday, July 23. The Kings of Florida have dominated their opponents, averaging around 44 points per game throughout the tournament. They lead the league in scoring and will be playing against the second highest scoring team, from Dallas, Texas, the Freaks, who are averaging around 39 points per game. The tournament was single elimination up until this championship weekend where the winner will be decided in a “Best of 3” series.
This is the fourth year for the American Flag Football League and this is the first year for their women’s division. The AFFL was established in 2017 and played their first exhibition game with Team Vick taking on Team Owens. In 2018 the league started airing games on the NFL Network as a part of a new TV deal. This season, all games including the championship game are televised on CBS on Sunday, August 29 at 5pm ET.
