Linebacker

Current roster: Jamin Davis, Cole Holcomb, Jon Bostic, Khaleke Hudson, David Mayo, Jared Norris, Jordan Kunaszyk, Joe Walter

Davis, Holcomb, and Bostic are the starters. It’s a testament to how thin this group is that Hudson is a virtual lock as well. They will keep one or two more, and the possibility of bringing in a free agent remains on the table. I have liked both Mayo, as a run stopper, and Walker, as a special teamer, when they were on other teams, but if I’m choosing now, I’m going with Norris. He is a teams stud who can do enough on defense is needed. Kunaszyk is an equally good special teamer, but can’t offer much beyond that.

Final Roster (5 or 6): Davis, Holcomb, Bostic, Hudson, Norris, and … maybe Mayo.

Defensive Backfield

Current roster: Kendall Fuller, William Jackson III, Jimmy Moreland, Danny Johnson, Tory McTyer, Bobby McCain, Cole Luke, Darryl Roberts, Linden Stephens, Benjamin St-Juste, Jeremy Reaves, Landon Collins, Kamren Curl, Deshazor Everett, Troy Apke, Darrick Forrest

Fuller, Jackson, Moreland and St-Juste are locks at corner. McCain can play either corner or free safety. He’s in. McTyer appears to have vaulted veteran Darryl Roberts to claim another spot. That gives you six corners. Collins and Curl take two safety spots.

That leaves one or two more positions up for grabs, with a slight lean toward guys who can play safety. Until someone clearly beats him out, I am always taking Everett on my team. He is the heart and soul of the special teams and can fill in adequately on defense when needed. I hate to say good-bye to Danny Johnson – one of my favorites – but I think his time has passed in DC. I don’t see roles for Roberts or Stephens, which leaves Luke, Reaves, Apke, and Forrest battling for a single potential spot. I don’t think a lot separates the three vets, but if a spot is open, I’ll go with Reaves. I think he has earned another look with his fill-in work over the past couple of seasons.

Final roster (9 or 10): Fuller, Jackson, Moreland, St-Juste, McTyer, McCain, Collins, Curl, Everett, and … maybe Reaves
