Washington Football Team: Dax Milne bolsters roster case with beautiful sideline grab
By Jerry Trotta
So much for ending the Ravens’ 19-game preseason winning streak, right?
Unfortunately for fans in Washington, the Football Team came out flat as can be and dug themselves a 23-3 halftime deficit.
There wasn’t really much of anything to like about the first half. Outside of a few flash plays from the defensive line, the defense let Tyler Huntley do his best Patrick Mahomes impression and tally three touchdowns (one rushing) to go along with a 146.3 passer rating.
Washington’s offense didn’t look much better. The running game was non-existent and Kyle Allen completed less than 50% of his passes.
In fact, the only big play of the first half came courtesy of Dax Milne, who’s battling for one of the final WR spots on the roster.
The seventh-rounder has garnered praise at camp for his big-play ability and he did just that in the second quarter by making a pretty-looking catch near the sidelines. Credit to Allen for placing it only where Milne could’ve caught it, too.
Dax Milne made a statement catch against the Ravens on Saturday.
Take it in, Washington fans. The only highlight of an uneventful first half for the Football Team. Based on how the offense (and defense) performed over the first 30 minutes, this might be the only highlight we see the entire game.
More importantly, however, Milne is doing everything in his power to stake his claim for one of the last spots on the 53-man roster. He only had two catches for 33 yards in the first two quarters, but highlight-reel snags like this leave more of an impression on a coaching staff than padding the stat sheet against backups.
