The 2021 Washington Football Team roster will be decided in the coming days, but here is how it may unfold.

Can you believe it? After many months of waiting for the 2021 NFL regular season, it is nearly here and the anticipation that has been building for months is about to become a reality. Training camp in Richmond was a rousing success and the fans enjoyed one of the best football experiences in many years. From team first lady Tanya Snyder to vice president (guest experience) Joey Colby-Begovich, the organization gifted fans the most memorable camp in years.

It’s time to build the Washington Football Team’s roster

After training camp in Richmond, the team returned to Ashburn and continued the process of preparing for the 2021 season. Preseason games and numerous practices awaited as the organization was now rapidly moving forward with building a roster of 53 players and a 16 member practice squad. The team building process has seen plenty of ups and downs in recent weeks, but most of the trends point toward a solid season of success.

On August 31 at 4 p.m. EDT, the Football Team must be at the NFL mandated 53 roster player maximum. 24 hours later (September 1), teams can place 16 players on the practice squad. Throughout the season, the roster could change due to injuries, possible COVID issues, performance, or team/league discipline.

Also, when building Washington’s roster for this particular season, the front office is planning for the future as well. Several players during the offseason signed multi-year deals and while game one next month is the main focus for now, future seasons will figure into the current roster as well.

With the team limit deadline just days away, who is in and who is out?  Will there be any surprise cuts? Are we going to see a player (or two) added from another team? Today, we will attempt to put forth a roster of 53 prediction and try to see what the Washington coaches are thinking.  Will our prediction match what you are expecting? Let’s jump right in!

Offense

The most important position on the team is decided and the only question mark is the backup to the starter, Ryan Fitzpatrick. There are no surprises and it stands in stark contrast to a year ago.  There are no controversies or turmoil of any kind.

Quarterback (3)

  • Starter:  Ryan Fitzpatrick
  • Kyle Allen
  • Taylor Heinicke

We come to our first difficult decision and it was a tossup between veteran Peyton Barber and dynamic rookie Jaret Patterson. At this juncture, Patterson has earned a roster spot, but Barber is also needed.

Running Back

  • Starter:  Antonio Gibson
  • J.D. McKissic
  • Jaret Patterson
  • Peyton Barber
