Washington Football Team: Chase Young-Jaret Patterson bromance is everything
By Jerry Trotta
The Washington Football Team has a lot of kinks to sort out before the regular season gets underway on Sept. 12.
While they picked up their first preseason win under Ron Rivera on Friday night, the offense looked way off the pace.
From Ryan Fitzpatrick overthrowing receivers, to the offensive line looking out of sync, a couple of drops from wideouts and the running game averaging just 3.7 yards per carry, it was a night to forget for the new-look offense.
You know which offensive player didn’t look rusty though? That would be Jaret Patterson, who was once again the player of the game for Washington.
Suffice it to say Patterson’s performance had fans picking their jaws up from the floor. However, no one enjoyed his big night more than Chase Young, who was spotted going crazy on the sidelines when Patterson scored his touchdown.
Football Team: Chase Young’s and Jaret Patterson’s bromance is perfect.
The bromance between Young and Patterson is everything we didn’t know we needed this season. If you’re wondering how the two players have formed an unbreakable bound so quickly, they’ve actually known each other since middle school.
In fact, Young and Patterson were teammates in high school before the former’s career took off and he transferred to DeMatha Catholic.
"“Since middle school, we’ve been tight,” Patterson said after he signed with the Football Team. “That bond, we went to Pallotti together, experiencing the grind. It kind of just clicked. Even when he went to DeMatha, we were still tight.”"
It goes without saying Patterson has never been the tallest player on the field during his football career. The polar opposite can be said about Young, who’s had a chiseled physique since before he arrived at Ohio State.
If you enjoy pictures that show size discrepancies between players, you’re going to love this high school throwback of Patterson (lined up in the backfield) and Young looking ready to do his best Terry McLaurin impression at WR.
If you thought that was cool, Ron Rivera admitted after Friday’s win that Young pushed for the Football Team to select Patterson leading up the draft.
While his wishes weren’t immediately granted, it’s clear Washington made it a priority to sign Patterson as an undrafted free agent.
The Football Team is reaping the benefits of that decision, because Patterson has morphed from a feel-good story and a likely practice squad stash into someone who could end up having a role in this year’s offense.
In the event Patterson makes the 53-man roster, expect a lot more wholesome content from him and Young this season.
