The Washington Football Team’s defensive line receives all the plaudits and headlines from the media, and understandably so, but Ron Rivera’s side wouldn’t have accomplished aything in 2020 without its stable offensive line.

Like countless teams, Washington will welcome some new faces to its OL this season. Charles Leno was brought in to fill the hole at left tackle and Sam Cosmi was drafted in the second round to replace longtime right tackle Morgan Moses.

The left guard position could also have a new starter come Week 1, as Wes Schweitzer and Ereck Flowers are battling it out for the starting job.

Speaking strictly in terms of Cosmi, however, the No. 51 overall pick has turned heads in his first two preseason games after a slow start at camp.

While it’s undeniably a small sample size, he looked the part of WFT’s right tackle of the future. As it turns out, we’re not the only ones who feel that way.

In his latest column for NFL.com, Hall of Fame executive Gil Brandt (!) listed Cosmi as one of 11 players drafted outside Round 1 who “can pop” this year.

Hall of Fame executive Gil Brandt thinks highly of Sam Cosmi

Here’s what Brandt had to say about Cosmi and how he can be essential to the Football Team’s success this campaign.

"“The offensive line was a relative bright spot for Washington in 2020, ranking sixth in Pro Football Focus’ end-of-year hierarchy,” Brandt wrote. ”“So the fact that Washington released right tackle Morgan Moses — a solid veteran who didn’t miss a start last season — tells you how highly the team values Cosmi, who earned the best overall grade from PFF among all Washington rookies in the preseason opener while manning Moses’ old position. Cosmi’s got a chance to play an important role in this team’s attempt to defend the NFC East title.”"

That’s high praise from one of the most decorated executives in the history of the NFL. When it comes to evaluating talent, very few are on Brandt’s level. Seriously, go look at some of the players he drafted with the Cowboys.

We won’t reveal any names, but let’s just say he presided over the drafting of nine Cowboys players who went on to become Hall of Famer’s. So, yeah, it’s a pretty big deal Brandt is projecting big things for Cosmi as a rookie.

While the Football Team has yet to name its starting right tackle — that’ll likely happen after the final preseason game — Cosmi has done everything possible to prove that the job belongs to him.

Whatever ends up happening, Brandt giving Cosmi his proverbial stamp of approval proves the Texas product has a bright future.
