3. Steven Montez

With three competent quarterbacks — Ryan Fitzpatrick, Taylor Heinicke and Kyle Allen — already ahead of him on the depth chart, the odds were stacked against Steven Montez to sneak his way onto the 53-man roster.

Unfortunately for Montez, a few shaky moments up until the fourth quarter coupled with the encouraging debuts from Fitzpatrick and Heinicke have made that climb even more steep.

Steven Montez was too inconsistent for our liking in Week 1.

While Montez’s athleticism and physical intangibles aren’t a question, the same can’t be said for his accuracy, which has plagued him throughout training camp and came back to bite him on a bad-looking interception against the Patriots.

That turnover lead to a TD for New England and Montez reportedly ended four practices last week with a walk-off interception.

It also doesn’t help that Montez, despite finishing 17-of-24 (which looks good on paper), averaged just 4.5 yards per completion.

The Colorado product no doubt had some impressive moments, but he’ll need to show more poise and avoid committing turnovers in Week 2.
