Washington Football: 5 players who won’t be with WFT in 2022
3. Keith Ismael
Keith Ismael was drafted in 2020 to be a quality backup center to Chase Roullier. Not too much was expected of the fifth-rounder from San Diego State last season, but now it is time for him to step forward and be ready if Roullier can’t start.
That sounds good on paper, but the Washington Football Team signed veteran center Tyler Larsen earlier in the offseason. Also, Ismael has been spending most of training camp on the sidelines.
The more time he spends apart from practices is simply giving more reps to Larsen and recently signed newcomer, Jon Toth. While Toth is not a threat to be on the roster of 53 this fall, the Kentucky product could carve out a place on the practice squad.
How do both of these offseason additions affect Ismael? Does it mean he is on a short leash for 2021? Injuries are a harsh reality of football and Ismael could be a victim of bad luck. At this juncture, it is difficult to see the former Aztec with a place on the roster in 2022.
