Washington Football: 5 players who won’t be with WFT in 2022
The Washington Football Team roster for 2021 will be decided in the coming weeks, but here are five players who will probably not be with the organization in 2022.
The 2021 NFL season is just around the corner and expectations for the Washington Football Team are the highest in many years. Fans are optimistic. Media analysts are offering glowing reviews. Players and coaches are excited.
It all adds up to a belief that this season could be very special for the Burgundy and Gold. The current talent level and depth are part of the reason why the level of optimism is skyrocketing. Also, the coaching staff and front office are the healthiest in several decades.
In two offseasons, Washington has been able to transform from a franchise that was moribund to an organization that is quickly gaining respect each day. In a few weeks, the Football Team will be releasing many players as they put the final touches on the roster of 53. There could be a few surprise cuts, but most of the roster will be what analysts are currently projecting.
Additionally, some players on the 2021 roster could be spending their last year with the Washington. Roster turnover each year is a given and, while a core group will remain with the organization after this season, others will move on to other teams, retire, or see their careers end much earlier than planned.
Who will not return to Washington as the team transitions to a new name in 2022? Today, we will take a look at five such players and while several are in the “likely” category, we could have a surprise or two during the next offseason.Let’s take a look.
5. Jon Bostic
Jon Bostic has been a true foot soldier for the Washington Football Team since he was signed as a free agent during the 2019 offseason. He has been a solid addition since his first season, but Bostic will turn 31 next spring and it is likely that the team will draft more talent at linebacker and get younger through free agency as well.
The former Florida Gator is in the final year of his current contract and the chances of being offered a new contract next year could be dwindling. 2021 first-round draft choice, linebacker Jamin Davis, is having an outstanding camp from all reports. The heralded rookie from Kentucky is quickly making Bostic’s middle linebacker position his own.

Don’t expect Bostic to back down or be unprofessional at this juncture. He continues to receive praise from the coaches and teammates that he does battle with each day. This could bode well for him if he wishes to remain in Washington beyond this season, but the most he could hope for is a smaller contract that is no more than one or two years in duration.
Jon Bostic is likely to continue to produce at a high level in 2021 and be the leader/mentor to several players that represent the future. However, this is a team that is looking to get younger, faster, and deeper in the coming years. Bostic could be fighting an uphill battle.
