The NFC East was supposed to be one of the deepest divisions in football last season.

However, it turned out to be one of the worst, as the Washington Football Team, despite being hindered by average quarterback play, took home the crown with a 7-9 record.

If you remember, the Football Team’s playoff fate could’ve been sealed had Philadelphia not tanked their primetime matchup in Week 17. After all, if the Eagles, who were clearly looking to solidify their draft position, won that game, the Giants would’ve won the division.

As for the division outlook in 2021, it should live up to last season’s hype. While it’s unclear who will finish on top, the Eagles are the clear favorites to come in last.

Despite enjoying a decent offseason and welcoming key players back from injury, Jalen Hurts showed nothing as a rookie to suggest he’s ready to be a winning QB. Barring anything unforeseen, Philadelphia should be the worst team in the division this year.

However, that might not last very long, because it looks like Philly has emerged as the clear favorite to acquire Deshaun Watson from the Texans. Per Chris Tapasso of CBS Sports, talks between the Eagles and Texans are “heating up” as the teams look to reach an agreement.

Needless to say this rumor spells trouble for the Football Team.

Deshaun Watson landing in Philly would be brutal for the Football Team.

Just when it looked like the Eagles were on the cusp of rebuilding, right? Philadelphia landing Watson would be terrible news for the entire NFC East, and, the last time we checked, that’s where the Football Team, the reigning division champs, reside.

Watson’s outlook for the upcoming season is in question as he combats a mountain of sexual assault allegations. However, assuming this doesn’t lead to him being banned by the NFL, the Eagles will be set up to win for the foreseeable future. Seeing as though Dallas isn’t going anywhere and the Giants are on the up and up, this would be brutal for the Football Team.

By the way, can we talk about how troubling it is that Philadelphia is actively pursuing Watson before the investigation is even complete? Talk about not taking the moral high ground.

A handful of teams have paused their pursuit of Watson while his legal situation sorts itself out, but the Eagles — living up to their reputation as habitual line-steppers — have prioritized the team’s success and future instead of letting their moral compass lead the way.

Putting that part of the conversation aside, Watson, if he’s traded there, would step in and transform the Eagles into a contender overnight. While their WR corps is still suspect, their offensive and defensive lines are almost back to full strength. They also made solid signings in free agency, including Anthony Harris and Ryan Kerrigan (still not over it).

We wouldn’t hit panic mode until one of the NFL’s more acclaimed insiders — your Adam Schefter’s, Ian Rapoport’s, etc. — but consider yourselves warned, Washington fans.

At this rate, something would have to happen with the investigation for Philly to miss out on Watson, like, say, a prosecution being finalized or the NFL placing him on paid leave until the matter is resolved if he’s charged with a felony.

In any event, these rumors should still terrify fans of the Football Team.
