Additional Thoughts

The quarterbacks and running backs that we listed today are virtual locks to be on the opening day roster.  Quite frankly, these two units were the second easiest to analyze – the defensive line was easier.  While there remains debate among analysts and fans as to who the starter should be at quarterback, the debate for Washington Football Team coaches is likely moot.

The offense has been significantly upgraded during the offseason and part of it centers on the changes at quarterback.  The questions that we had last year at this time were far greater than we see today.  A seasoned veteran has replaced an immature youngster as the starter.  Two of the primary backups replace a wounded warrior legend that had no more to give to the game of football.  A project returns to gain another year of experience on the practice squad.

The top three running backs remain, but a determined rookie could push for some playing time.  This unit will greatly benefit from an offensive line that has been upgraded with solid starters and superior depth.  However, they are one injury away from being mediocre at best.  This will be a situation to monitor in the coming weeks and months.

This is our final look at each unit on defense and offense for 2021.  Training camp and preseason games are knocking on the door and the first game of the season is just around the bend.  The Washington Football Team is improved on paper and now it is time to prove it on the practice fields and football stadiums.
