Turnover since 2018

We recently wrote about the rapid roster turnover that has occurred over the past three seasons, and that is certainly true when it comes to the secondary. In 2018, the primary cornerbacks were Josh Norman, Fabian Moreau and Quinton Dunbar. The safeties were D.J. Swearinger, Ha-Ha Clinton-Dix, and Montae Nicholson.

Depth players Greg Stroman and Deshazor Everett were the only other backs on the field for more than 100 defensive snaps. And those two depth players are the only two remaining on the roster in the 2021 offseason. I think Everett will make the final 53 this season and Stroman will not, but both face a lot of competition.

Two seasons back, in 2019. Jimmy Moreland and Landon Collins joined the Washington Football Team, but of the other seven players who logged at least 100 snaps (Norman, Dunbar, Moreau, Nicholson, Aaron Colvin, and Coty Sensabaugh), only Troy Apke is still with the club. He faces a steep uphill battle to remain in 2021.

So although the overhaul of the secondary has not been quite as thorough as that of the offensive skill players (where only Terry McLaurin remains from two seasons ago), we are looking at a largely rebuilt defensive backfield as we enter 2021.
