Wide Receivers

On the Roster:

  • Terry McLaurin
  • Curtis Samuel
  • Adam Humphries
  • Dyami Brown
  • Antonio Gandy-Golden
  • Cam Sims
  • Dax Milne
  • Steven Sims Jr.
  • Tony Brown
  • DeAndre Carter
  • Kelvin Harmon
  • Isaiah Wright

So, as you can see, this is a long list of players. Washington will probably decide to keep 5-6 guys on the roster for the regular season. Realistically, only two, maybe three players will make an impact in the fantasy world though.

Terry McLaurin and Curtis Samuel are the two guys that I expect to be owned in most leagues for the 2021 season. Neither of these guys had very successful QB play last season and still were able to produce nice numbers — both finished in the top-25 for their position.

McLaurin specifically should see a nice boost in numbers this year. In the eight seasons that Ryan Fitzpatrick started at least nine games, his top receiver had 128 targets or more. That bodes well for young star Terry McLaurin, who has a real chance at taking another leap this season.

Verdict: Terry McLaurin is worth an early pick and can be trusted as your top receiving option this season. Curtis Samuel is worth a later pick and has a lot of flex-value. I expect offensive coordinator, Scott Turner, to find some creative ways to get Samuel the ball throughout the year. If the matchup is right, don’t be afraid to play Curtis Samuel. Barring an injury, the other Washington receivers should stay out of lineups with the exception of very deep leagues.

Tight Ends

On the Roster:

  • Logan Thomas
  • John Bates
  • Sammis Reyes
  • Temarrick Hemingway
  • Ricky Seals-Jones
  • Tyrone Swoopes
  • Deon Yelder

Your guess is as good as mine for who makes the final roster. What we do know though, is Logan Thomas will be the starter in 2021. Thomas was one of the highlights of last offseason for the Washington Football Team as he signed with the team early last March.

Thomas played quarterback in college and transitioned to tight end in the NFL. After six years in the league, Thomas finally got his first real opportunity last year in Washington and made the most of it. He led the team with six receiving touchdowns and was second on the team in receiving yards with 670. He also ended the year as TE7.

With that all being said, it may be hard for Thomas to replicate what he did last year. Statistically, tight ends have done pretty well under Alex Smith. Between Vernon Davis and Travis Kelce, Smith had some pretty good ones to throw to — which he did often.

In the past, Ryan Fitzpatrick tended to look for his wide receivers slightly more than Smith. Not to mention there are a lot more threats on this offense now too. This means less targets for Logan Thomas this year.

Nonetheless, Fitzpatrick did help Mike Gesicki put together a nice season for the Dolphins last year. Maybe he’ll do the same with Logan Thomas. I think highly of Thomas, and believe he’s one of the better tight ends in the league. I still expect him to finish just under where he did last year.

Verdict: Thomas can be a starting tight end for you if you miss out on one of the elite guys. Definitely worth a late-round pick, just don’t reach on him.
