THE EXECUTORS (1997-98)

The less said about them, the better.

Suffice to say, a muddled situation in which John Kent Cooke and a group of other functionaries – many of whom were financial advisers to Jack Kent Cooke, with no football experience of which to speak – battled over day-to-day decisions, benefitted no one. Trent Green would have stayed on as quarterback, maybe on a team-friendly deal. But there was no one to give GM Charlie Casserly final approval.

So Green walked, and Casserly traded for Brad Johnson. Johnson was good for the two years he was with the Washington Football Team, but he was a short-timer, and the draft capital given away for him made it harder to rebuild an aging team. Small example of some serious disfunction.

And while we’re on the subject of disfunction…
