Washington Football Team: Analyzing the team’s linebackers in 2021
The Washington Football Team filled a glaring hole in the 2021 NFL Draft by selecting a linebacker in the first round. The linebacker corps improved significantly with that addition.
A few weeks ago, the Washington Football team addressed a major need on day one of the NFL Draft and selected linebacker Jamin Davis of the Kentucky Wildcats. It didn’t transform the defense in just a single night, but the need for talented linebackers and linebacker depth was all too obvious at the conclusion of the 2020 season. However, it did improve a solid defense and continued a team rebuild that began more than 16 months ago.
The linebackers could use another talented body or solid depth, but it is unknown if the Washington Football Team will sign any additional players before training camp or the 2021 season itself. The defensive line is one of the best in the NFL and the secondary has been upgraded during the offseason as well. If the front office is inclined to add another linebacker, it needs to be soon as free agency could become depleted of reasonable options.
Will Washington roll into the 2021 season with the current group of linebackers? It’s entirely possible and we will take a look at the unit today as we return to our analysis of each group on offense and defense. Head coach Ron Rivera and defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio were linebackers during their playing days and the expertise they possess certainly can’t be overlooked. Analyzing the linebackers today seems like an intimidating task, but we are grateful that both coaches are not looking over our shoulders at this moment.
