Washington Football Team: Analyzing the 2021 offensive line

Young backups
The other likely backups are a trio of very young players with major upside. 2020 draftee Saahdiq Charles only made it onto the field for two plays before injury ended his rookie season. But assuming full recovery, that may prove to be a blessing in disguise. Charles was drafted as a tackle but he may be better suited to play on the inside. His injury meant that the team didn’t have to rush him into action. Now, he can settle in as just one of the talented young players competing for a spot.
Because of how well Schweitzer played last year, another 2020 draftee, Keith Ismael, rarely made it onto the field. His career trajectory has changed somewhat. When he was drafted, he was seen as a potential replacement for Roullier, should the free-agent-to-be center leave after the 2021 season. However, now that Roullier has signed a multi-year deal, Ismael may be in line to take over for Scherff, who is likely to be the one to leave after this season. Either way, Ismael is a mobile, athletic player who should provide solid depth across the interior and eventually challenge for a starting spot.
The Washington Football Team drafted Samuel Cosmi in the second round of the 2021 draft and they have high expectations. He can play either tackle spot, and could see some time at guard as well. With the depth already mentioned, the team has the luxury of bringing Cosmi along slowly, at least in his rookie year. But with Leno and Lucas in the final year of their contracts, and with Moses entering his eighth season, these young players will have every opportunity to prove they deserve long-term starting positions.
