Additional Thoughts

The last-minute news of McCain coming to Washington adds another layer of intrigue for mini-camp, training camp, and the preseason.  The competition at free safety is wide open, but McCain probably has the inside track for now.  He is a solid player and would likely start on day one.

The defensive backs for 2021 are very much improved with the free-agent acquisition of Jackson and draftees St-Juste and Forrest.  Jackson was the superstar addition in the early days of free agency and he is a significant upgrade for the Burgundy and Gold on the perimeter.

St-Juste has been subjected to numerous doubts about his ability to have an impact at the next level.  Some analysts have openly questioned why Washington chose him in the third round.  Yours truly said that he could’ve been available in the fourth round, but St-Juste (correct spelling) fits the description of a Ron Rivera type of player.

Look for the Minnesota standout to have a solid rookie campaign.

Forrest is probably a year away from being a starter or provide quality depth. He will need a period of time to adjust to the speed and talent levels of the NFL.  He should have a good impact on special teams in 2021 and it wouldn’t be surprising to see this former Bearcat become the starter at free safety in 2022.

The Washington Football Team could sign a strong safety for depth purposes only.
