Washington Football Team Special Teams: Return men
Kick Returners
The field is wide open for now and there are plenty of candidates. Most kickoffs sail into the end zone and returns are typically limited.
At this time, there are potentially six kick returners on the roster and we are listing them in order of what we think will be the preferred choice.
- Danny Johnson
- Isaiah Wright
- Steven Sims
- DeAndre Carter
- Greg Stroman
- Jaret Patterson
Punt Returners
Seven players could be competing for the punt returning duties in 2021. It’s a crowded field for now, but the list will quickly narrow during training camp and the preseason.
A wild card entry, Adam Humphries, is added to this mix. He returned punts for Tampa Bay and Tennessee for several seasons and could warrant a look in training camp and the preseason.
- Isaiah Wright
- Steven Sims
- DeAndre Carter
- Adam Humphries
- Danny Johnson
- Greg Stroman
- Jaret Patterson
2021 Prediction: The competition for kick returner likely comes down to Danny Johnson and Isaiah Wright. Johnson has the edge based on experience, but Wright has a better than average chance to supplant Johnson
Punt return duties for the Washington Football Team could be the fiercest competition of all. Wright, Sims, and Carter could be locked in a very tight battle that could last until the final cuts. A slight edge is given to Wright for now.
Danny Johnson will return the ball 24 times for a 23.5-yard average. Isaiah Wright will return 31 punts for a 9.0-yard average.
