2021 NFL Draft: Washington Football Team selects DB Benjamin St-Juste with No. 74 pick
The Washington Football Team had performed well in the first two rounds of the 2021 NFL Draft. In the first round, they landed a talented, athletic linebacker in Jamin Davis. In Round 2, they added offensive tackle Sam Cosmi in a pick that has a ton of upside.
In the third round, the WFT added another piece to their defense. That would be Minnesota’s Benjamin St-Juste.

St-Juste is a 6-foot-3, 205-pound defensive back that played two college seasons for the Golden Gophers after transferring from Michigan. He was one of the top recruits from Canada and had a strong college career.
As a sophomore in 2019, he had 10 pass defenses and 45 tackles. That showed his high-end potential as an outside starter. Last year, in five games, he had just one pass defense, but he showed well at the Senior Bowl to help out his draft stock.
For the Washington Football Team, St-Juste will have a chance to play a variety of roles in the secondary. At Minnesota, St-Juste played cornerback and will likely stick there at the NFL level. He has the size, strength, and length needed to be a nice, physical problem on the outside. He should also pair well with William Jackson III and Kendall Fuller.
As a press corner, St-Juste should find success, but he is scheme-versatile and could even have a chance to emerge as a contributor at safety — if the team wanted to use him in such a way. That may be part of the reason that they announced him as a defensive back.
And either way, it certainly seems like he checks the boxes that Ron Rivera is looking for with his players: Versatile, tough, and physical.
Washington needed some extra help in the secondary after losing Fabian Moreau in free agency, so St-Juste could replace him as a top backup or a top option in the nickel defense. Soon enough, we’ll see how Washington plans on using St-Juste, but he adds yet another key piece of depth to the defense.
And with the Washington Football Team continuing to add depth and talent to that unit, the sky could truly be the limit for that young unit if all goes well in 2021.
