2021 NFL Mock Draft: Bears trade into top 10, Washington Football Team goes offense
The draft range on Jamin Davis is fairly wide. He could go in the late teens while some publications have him going in the second round. That said, it seems likely that he’ll be a first-round selection. He just slips to 26 out of circumstance here.
If this happens on draft night, a team could try to leapfrog the Browns to get a shot at Davis. Perhaps Washington would consider it, a la Montez Sweat back in 2019. But for now, we’ll keep the Browns here and have them take the Kentucky product.
Davis flew under the radar a bit playing for a not-so-great Wildcats team, but he made 102 tackles, notched 1.5 sacks, grabbed three picks, and had two pass defenses on the season. He looks like the latest in a solid line of Kentucky linebackers that has included Danny Trevathan and Avery Williamson.
The difference between Davis and those players is that Davis has great size (6-foot-4, 234 pounds) and is an amazing athlete. He garnered attention at his Pro Day for posting a 42-inch vertical jump and broad jumping 11 feet. He also ran a 4.48-second 40-yard dash and showed off his explosion and speed for all to see.
Davis could be a productive three-down player in the NFL and he has a chance to be the first linebacker off the board depending on what happens with Parsons. Washington could consider him at 19, so Cleveland won’t complain about landing him at 26 and pairing him with Mack Wilson, Sione Takitaki, Anthony Walker, and Jacob Phillips to make a deep, versatile linebacker room.
Linebacker is the one spot on Cleveland’s defense that could really use some extra talent. Maybe the Browns would prefer to add a talent like Christian Barmore to their defensive line, but Davis is the better prospect at this point in the mock.
