No offense to the mocks and the mockers out there, but I can’t bring myself to write another one at this time. Soon enough, we will all know what players the Washington Football Team has added and we can begin opining and speculating on what will be and what might have been. It will be great fun.

One day, I want to spend some time thinking about why football fans – at least fans of the Washington Football Team – seem more engaged and interested in what the team is doing during the free agency/draft period than they do during the actual season. But that day is not today.

I will instead offer a snapshot of the quarterback situation faced by the four teams in the NFC East at this moment, just before the 2021 draft. Call it a confidence rating.

QB confidence rankings and the Washington Football Team

My methodology is simple. Based on the quarterbacks currently on each team’s roster, I am assigning a confidence factor on a scale of 0 to 10. Ten is Patrick Mahomes. Zero is Patrick Star, the starfish from Spongebob.

I am then weighing the starter at 65 percent, the backup at 30 percent, and everyone else at 5 percent. Quibble if you like, but it makes sense to me.

And note – this is for the 2021 season, and only the 2021 season. This is not a long-term projection of the relative strength of each team’s quarterback situation.

Here’s what I come up with.
