Washington Football Team Round 2 pick

Florida. Kyle Trask. 51. 58. . QB. player.

With pick 51, here’s where Washington brings in the “star” of this mock draft. Florida’s Kyle Trask isn’t going to offer much in terms of off-script playmaking, he isn’t a fluent athlete.

Trask isn’t going to launch a football 70 yards in the air, and he doesn’t have the cleanest footwork under pressure. He doesn’t offer an offense much outside of a clean pocket, but he could be a true difference-maker within his strengths.

What Kyle Trask does well is within his confined role either under center or in the gun. He can be surgical at all three levels of the passing game. He’s a true pocket quarterback, who has the arm talent to make just about any throw. Trask is best working from a clean pocket, where he can make miraculous deep throws, or darts at 10-15 yards.

His work during his senior season at Florida was as special as the numbers show. From a big-time throw rate of over 8.5 percent according to PFF to having the fourth most deep yards in his class at nearly 1,300 to his clean turnover sheets, Trask was special. He had a turnover-worthy play rate at just 2.6 percent.

Standing 6-foot-5, 240 pounds, Trask is reminiscent of the pocket passers from the 2000s. Sure, he isn’t going to work great in an offense that’ll require a lot of off-script plays or constant deep shots, but in a horizontal passing game that flourishes on strategic deep throws, Trask can find success.

He fits the bill when it comes to the asks of the Scott Turner offense, Trask can be a competent player within the confines of his role. He has clear strengths and clear weaknesses, but after seeing last year’s version of Alex Smith run the Turner offense to a NFC East division crown, Trask could be a significant upgrade over what the offense was just a season ago.
