2013 NFL Draft: Chris Thompson, RB, Florida State (5th Round)

Chosen with pick 154 overall in the 2013 NFL Draft by Washington, Chris Thompson had low expectations coming in after suffering multiple major injuries as a member of the Florida State Seminoles. Thompson had limited to modest production in college but had to work hard to even be drafted into the league.

Due to struggles and injuries early in his pro career, Thompson didn’t play in more than five games until the 2015 season under then-WFT head coach Jay Gruden. Under Gruden, Thompson became more of an all-purpose threat rushing and receiving. Thompson’s best year as a dual threat running back was arguably during the 2017 NFL season.

Even though the odds were probably stacked against Chris Thompson along the way, he completed his improbable journey in the burgundy and gold with a combined 2,966 rushing plus receiving yards to go along with 15 touchdowns.

As a member of the Washington Football Team from 2013-2019, Thompson was efficient when healthy, a leader amongst the players, and an all-around good guy to the media. Another example of a late-round pick who was a core player during his seven-year tenure.
