Round 3, Pick 95 LB Monty Rice Georgia

In this simulator, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers traded up with the Washington Football Team at Pick 88. The trade goes as follows:

At pick 95, after picking up an extra fourth in 2021 and an extra second in 2022, the Washington Football Team selects another underrated player in this draft, Monty Rice.

Rice is very athletic in every direction. He can get to his coverage drops quickly, he moves laterally very well and has good closing speed in a straight line.

Rice’s athleticism and a general understanding of how coverages work should make him a solid coverage linebacker in the NFL. Coverage skills are a very valuable trait for any linebacker.

However, Rice is slightly undersized. He will need to get stronger to prevent from getting washed out in the run game as he sometimes is prone to do. Properly stacking in the run game is another area of weakness that he will need to continue to iron out.

These weaknesses for Rice, with this defensive line for Washington, would be able to be hidden until he improves. He can just focus on being instinctive and using his athletic tools to make plays. The interior of the defensive line can take up the blocks and allow Rice to roam mostly free.

Rice gives the Washington Football Team another high upside linebacker to go with Cole Holcomb. And it gives them something you cannot coach, instincts and speed.
