3. Tight end

Logan Thomas emerged as a terrific top tight end for the Washington Football Team. Unfortunately, the team doesn’t have much outside of him.

Jeremy Sprinkle was a solid blocker for Washington, but he remains unsigned in free agency. Marcus Baugh and Temarrick Hemingway both spent time on the roster last year, but they’re merely back-end roster players.

There is some intrigue with Thaddeus Moss, an undrafted free agent last year for the team, and Tyrone Swoopes, a former Texas quarterback turned tight end who fits the Thomas mold. But both are unproven and the team could stand to add some higher-end talent to compete with them for the backup job behind Thomas.

The 2021 NFL Draft is solid at the tight end spot. While Washington probably won’t be in play for a guy like Kyle Pitts, who may be a top 10 pick, there are numerous players that could be fits for them elsewhere.

If Washington trades down in Round 1, or if he slips to their Round 2 pick, they could consider Pat Freiermuth. If he’s not on the board, guys like Brevin Jordan and Hunter Long would be nice options in Round 2 or even Round 3 of the draft. Later on, there are some backup candidates with upside too.

Adding depth at tight end would help Fitzpatrick and the other Washington QBs as it would give them another weapon to target and an insurance policy for Thomas. Expect Washington to add at least something to what currently looks like one of the thinnest positions on their roster.
