4. Offensive tackle

For 2021, the Washington Football Team is set up at the tackle position. Beyond that, there are some questions.

Both Cornelius Lucas and Morgan Moses are set to be free agents after the 2021 campaign. They’re also both entering their 30s, so they will probably want to cash in one more time before calling it a career. Both have played well enough for Washington to consider keeping them as starters, but will they want to pay them both? That’s debatable.

Beyond that, Lucas only recently became a starter and while he’s solid, he could be an elite swing tackle for the team. And he could start until any player that Washington considers drafting is ready to go.

Two more things worth noting: First of all, this is a great tackle class. There are countless players that could be first-round picks at the position and with Washington’s second-round pick, there should still be some solid players left on the board. So, they’ll have a great chance to land a future starter at the position.

The second thing to consider is that Geron Christian is set to be a free agent after the season as well. He hasn’t been very good since Washington used a third-round pick on him in 2018, but he did provide depth nonetheless. Saahdiq Charles could emerge as a quality depth option at tackle, but he could also move inside to guard depending on how he does this year.

This seems like the right time for Washington to add some tackle talent. It’s a great class to do so in and giving a rookie a year to learn under, and compete with, Moses and Lucas seems like a good move. If they’re encouraged enough with the rookie’s progress, they can move on from one of their veteran blockers during the offseason.
