Round 5

And we’re back together in Round 5. The board is even thinner now, but there is an opportunity to trade back and acquire more picks in Rounds 6 and 7. The Cincinnati Bengals called with a generous offer. Let’s take a look.

Trade Offers

  • CIN: The No. 163 pick and a 2022 seventh-rounder for the No. 190, No. 202, and No. 226 picks

I don’t know who the Bengals like so much to trade three late-round picks for a fifth-rounder, but frankly, I don’t care. This is a very strong offer this late in the draft. Yes, it’s all Day 3 capital being swapped, but if I can get more swings of the bat at this stage, I’m going to do just that.

The Washington Football Team, which currently doesn’t have any sixth-round selections, would add three with this trade, at the cost of a fifth-rounder and a future seventh-rounder, which they can easily recoup.

I’m taking this trade, but for those of you not certain, here’s a look at the board at pick No. 163.

Players Available at No. 163

  • Wake Forest QB Jamie Newman
  • Virginia LB Charles Snowden
  • Oklahoma State RB Chuba Hubbard
  • Florida State DL Marvin Wilson
  • Tennessee WR Josh Palmer
  • Iowa DL Chauncey Golston
  • Minnesota CB Benjamin St-Juste
  • Wake Forest WR Sage Surratt
  • Missouri RB Larry Rountree III
  • Purdue LB Derrick Barnes
  • Notre Dame OL Robert Hainsey
  • San Diego State DB Tariq Thompson
  • Georgia TE Tre’ McKitty
  • Illinois WR Josh Imatorbhebhe
  • California CB Camryn Bynum
  • Stanford WR Simi Fehoko

There are some semi-compelling options, but some of them might still be available at No. 190 in the sixth round, and that trade back comes with added capital. It’s an easy choice for me. If you’re staying here, make your pick, and see what the other option entails in Round 6.
