The Washington Football Team might not be done adding to its receiving core in free agency.

Curtis Samuel was the big acquisition for the Washington Football Team during the month of March. Ryan Fitzpatrick and William Jackson III have the makeup of dependable veterans at the very least, but Samuel is a tier above the two with his withstanding upside. At just 24 years old, Samuel could potentially be a key piece of Washington’s offense moving forward.

Having said that, the Washington Football Team was far from solidified in their receiving core, even after Samuel’s signing. Terry McLaurin and Samuel constitute a dynamic opening duo, and Cam Sims has proven himself as solid depth. But beyond that, Washington doesn’t have much in the way of reliability.

Early today, a report surfaced that suggested Washington is still perusing the free agent market for exactly that: Reliability. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero revealed earlier that former Buccaneers and Titans wide receiver Adam Humphries is set to visit the Washington Football Team today.

Humphries, who turns 28 years old in June, entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Clemson. He managed to stick around with Tampa Bay from 2015 to 2018, and over that time, he developed into one of the better slot receivers in the league, amassing 76 catches for 816 yards and five touchdowns in 2018.

In the 2019 offseason, Humphries joined up with the Titans, and it was hoped that Humphries would be the completing piece to a receiving core that included then-rookie A.J. Brown and Corey Davis. Instead, Humphries was under-utilized in Tennessee’s offense. In two years with the Titans, he caught just 60 passes for 602 yards and four touchdowns. He only dropped two passes and caught over 70% of his targets, but the targets just didn’t come his way very often.

Humphries would be a nice buy-low addition for the Washington Football Team, were they to sign him. He’s not an elite athlete. At his pro day in 2015, Humphries logged a 4.53 40-yard dash, a 32.5-inch vertical, and a 122-inch broad jump. He did, however, earn a sub-7.00 three-cone time, which is good for a wide receiver.

At 5-foot-10, 195 pounds, Humphries is a bit undersized, but he could be a solid, steady presence in the slot if given an opportunity. He’s also versatile enough to move around and play multiple positions, although his size projects best in space. For now, nothing is official, but there seems to be interest in Humphries on Washington’s end. It would be a nice signing, if it happens.
