Washington Football Team: Post-free agency seven-round mock draft
By Ian Cummings
Round 3, Pick 1 – Kentucky LB Jamin Davis
Another position that remains a need after free agency is linebacker. The Washington Football Team still has Cole Holcomb and Jon Bostic, and they also have rangy rotational player Josh Harvey-Clemons returning in 2021, after he opted out to protect his son with asthma.
Nevertheless, Washington needs more at linebacker. Harvey-Clemons likely isn’t more than depth, Bostic is a short-term solution who sometimes struggles on run-stopping downs, and Cole Holcomb, while still young, hasn’t quite developed to the desired level as a starter.
The Washington Football Team should have several options at this juncture, but one player who hasn’t gotten as much buzz is Kentucky linebacker Jamin Davis. Davis is young and raw, but his talent is undeniable. Standing at 6-foot-4, 234 pounds, Davis is long and rangy, and he’s also explosive and fluid when traversing the box.
Davis flashed instincts this past year on the way to putting up 102 tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, three picks, two deflections, and a forced fumble. With his fluidity in coverage, and his explosiveness through gaps, Davis projects as a versatile three-down player on the second level, and who better to develop him than Ron Rivera?
