In need of another weapon opposite of Terry McLaurin, pending free agent Kenny Golladay is the answer.

After news broke that the Detroit Lions opted to not place the franchise tag on star wideout Kenny Golladay, the immediate aftermath in the comment section of Twitter was filled with fans of their favorite teams jockeying for the services of Kenny G.

The former Pro Bowl wideout is coming off of an injury-filled 2020 season, but up to this point, he has solidified himself as a premier WR1 in the NFL. One that the Washington Football Team could use opposite of Terry McLaurin.

The 6’4″, 214-pound pass-catcher from Northern Illinois has had fantastic production throughout the early stages of his career. From his first Pro Bowl nod coming in 2019, to back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons, he’s the most proven commodity on the open market.

Since the departure of Kirk Cousins, DeSean Jackson, Pierre Garçon, and Sean McVay, the Washington Football Team’s offense is still reeling. They haven’t found their quarterback, nor have they found any sort of consistent complementary pieces for their star at the X position.

The Washington Football Team’s offense in 2019 stayed afloat due to the broad, Bill Goldberg-type shoulders of Terry McLaurin, who carried the offense to some sort of competence despite lackluster QB play and not one solidified weapon opposite him.

In 2020, the captain received help from Logan Thomas. Finally, an established running game presented itself, and the Pro Bowl snub produced at an elite level. Throughout the second half of the season though, McLaurin was bracketed like the WR1 he is. Therefore, the Washington Football Team needed someone to emerge as a competent second option in the passing game.

From game to game, it was someone different. Though Logan Thomas finished off his 2020 season strong, earlier in the year, nobody on the team could put it all together week to week on the perimeter.

Even as Thomas shined, there wasn’t a single receiving option who could alleviate the double coverage opposing defenses would throw at Terry McLaurin week in and week out.

After the season, Richard Sherman went on Cris Collinsworth’s podcast stating: “If he [Terry McLaurin] had anybody else beside him… he’d be special.” This further validates the point that McLaurin needs more help.

That’s why the Washington Football Team should sign Kenny Golladay this offseason.
